The basics you need to know to increase traffic to your website and boost your rankings in search engines can be summarised as follows:

i) Create a site with valuable content, products or services.

ii) Your primary and secondary keywords should be placed within the first 25 words of your page content. Be sure to distribute them evenly throughout the text.

iii) Do your research. The appropriate keywords and phrases will attract your target customers.

iv) Place your keywords in the appropriate fields within your page. Like Title, META tags, Headers, etc.

v) Don’t over-complicate the design. Keep it simple, your customers need to be able to navigate the site, they will not stick around if they cannot find what they want.

vi) Submit your web pages i.e. every web page and not just the home page, to the most popular search engines and directory services. If necessary, outsource this task. Make sure this is a manual submission. Do not engage an automated submission service.

vii) Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and processes and accordingly modify your web pages so your search engine ranking remains high. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing.

viii) Keep an eye on your competitors’ websites as well as the top-ranked ones, and note what they are doing in terms of design, content, keywords and navigation.

ix) You can see where your site traffic is coming from by the use of logs and reports from your hosting company. Analyze your visitor location and their incoming sources whether search engines or links from other sites and the keywords they used to find you.

x) Make your customer visit easy and give them plenty of ways to remember you in the form of newsletters, free reports, reduction coupons etc.

xi) Submit articles frequently, to your site or to article websites. This will increase customer perception of you as an expert in your chosen field.

xii) When selling products online, use simple payment and shipment methods to make your customer’s experience fast and easy. The easier the customer finds your site to use, the more likely he or she will return.

xiii) If you are unsure, don’t be afraid to hire professionals. The initial cost will be outweighed by the traffic you will generate. It will work out cheaper than spending money on a website that is never seen.

xiv) Don’t look at your website as a static brochure. It should be regarded as a constantly-changing, dynamic sales tool, just like your real store in which your customers should be treated with the same seriousness.
