A great tool for driving traffic to your website is Google Adwords. But be sure to avoid these mistakes, as you start your campaign.

It’s no laughing matter with Adwords because some mistakes have a terrible ripple effect. With Adwords, you have to keep your wits about you, and that means paying attention and thinking about what you’re doing. If you stay with it, eventually you’ll discover that a lot of mistakes just are not necessary. As you can imagine, there are very many advertisers who are making a great ROI with Adwords. Do the best you can to find out who is successful, and then study and learn from those marketers. See how they construct their landing pages, page copy, ad copy, and anything else you can think of. Analyze and research your competition and see what different they’re doing than you. It can take some time because sometimes it’s hard to know who is succeeding and who isn’t. You’ll notice ads come and go, and they’re the ones that are not performing well. Of course it’s entirely your decision, but you may want to consider not copying another ad that is not yours. You can see major differences pretty quickly by using this strategy. For the most part, people click through to your offer because your ad compelled them to do so. This could be a need that want to have fulfilled, and your ad promised them this. You have to be careful that your landing page or home page does “not” have a lot of distracting things that they are “not” looking for. That is the kind of thing that will kill your conversions right dead. This is why you need to set up a targeted landing page for your ad that represents it and helps the user understand it better. All parts of your campaign need to be related to each other, or… they must be relevant. Google is so concerned about this issue of relevance that they will test your landing or home page for relevance and let you know how it goes. Just like testing out various ads, testing out the landing page will serve a bigger purpose.

Underestimating the significance of their landing page is another error made by many Adwords users. You have to make sure that your landing page matches your ad. This is one AdWords principle you can never violate.

Your landing page’s headline must match the copy of your ad, or people who click on your ad will be frustrated. People click on an ad because they were promised something, so you have to deliver on that. In addition to matching your ad, you also want to make your landing page visually appealing, so make sure it isn’t cluttered or sloppy looking. So your landing page and ad can’t be considered apart from each other, as together they are an important combination. If you neglect this, you may end up getting a large number of clicks with a poor conversion rate. If you want to gain profits from your campaign, and not loose money, you will want to be sure and avoid these mistakes.
